Rambling Fox

Every few months I find myself returning to this promo video

In early 2016, the Swedish rock band Kent out of nowhere announced that they were going to call it a day. Kent having always had a dramatic flair, they didn't just make a post about it. They uploaded the below video.

Each scene, character, location or symbol is a reference to an album or a single cover, a music video or part of album iconography. I once read someone describe the video as the Grim Reaper gathering together all the ghosts of the band's past for one final march to the grave, and I don't think I could put it in a better way. It's such a strongly done video that even people I've shown this to and who have no idea of the band have reacted positively to it.

(and speaking of reactions, you can't even imagine how people - I - felt when that funeral announcement slammed onto the screen towards the end of the video with no warning)

This is probably my favourite piece of music promotional material (outside any music videos etc). Oh and the final album was pretty great too!

In a sort of classic petty music fan way I do feel a little deflated about the band's recent reunion tour, simply because of how dramatic they made their end in so, so many ways, really dressing it up as a final send-off. But maybe I'm just jealous I'm too far away to get any tickets.
